I just about rolled off the chair when I read this. Apparently they have been testing antidepressants on kids and have had “great results” with the drug Sertraline (found in Zoloft).
The National Institute of Mental Health has paid for the study. They say they are dealing with kids who are self-conscious and won’t seek out friends or take part in class. You are kidding right? Isn’t that every kid? Didn’t we all have to figure it out at some point? You know, which kid may be your friend and which kid may kick the crap out of you and take your lunch money?
It is bad enough we are making sure all our kids are “winners” and no one gets “left behind” but drugging them in to submission doesn’t fly with the real world.
The only group that should all get “participation” ribbons is those involved in the Special Olympics. The rest of us need to face the real world and drugging our kids doesn’t solve the problem. How about you just tear Johnny and Jenny away from the television, the Playstation, and the internet (except for my blog of course) for a couple days?
I wrote out this wonderful comment full of urls for reference and it appears to be lost in cyber space. *sigh* Godfather how do you hyperlink in this new format?
Back to the posting though. Yes they are drugging our kids. Look at the number of kids today on Ritalin. And why? Because no discipline is allowed any more. I mean you can’t spank the kid for that is abusive, you can’t punish them as that is too negative. Someone tell me how the hell you teach children and correct them without showing/teaching them about consequences for actions? *rolling my eyes here*
Sorry, a good spanking NEVER hurt a child; and followed up with a punishment like grounding, no tv, etc reinforced the correction.
Now they want to put the kids on cholesterol lowering drugs too. They are also talking about bariatric surgery for overweight/obese kids.
We are being exterminated in case you missed it……….LOL
A good blog site to read from an insider in the medical profession is: http://www.junkfoodscience.blogspot.com/
LOL – I got a few spankings and I turned out ok.
*Not sure sure on the link methods – just when I thought I was almost done for the day
I just typed it into your comment with real “dots”.
I got at least my share of spankings….as to whether I turned out okay is debatable, but physically I’m okay. Ad I dont get the anti-punishment/yay-for-everyone/drug-em-all crowd. Maybe they need a bit of drugging themselves, in the form of superpacked caffeine pills and a little sleep deprivation…then they will definitely go overboard and be forced to discipline their kids the right way, being overstimulated in that fashion!
Ummm Mike, I’m not sure we really want to hype up the nosy-bodies any more than they already seem to be. Personally I’m thinking of slipping sleeping pills into all of them just to give mankind a break from their mental illnesses…………LOL
Even my severely physically handicapped child got a spanking twice in his life, and trust me, for him to warrant one you just gotta know whatever he did back then was a real dooozy………LOL
But I’ve noticed a trend. The more “protection” and “safety” we legislate, the worse people seem to get, and the sicker they all are also.
I’ll stick with my “bad” foods, cigarettes and coffee thankuverymuch!
Godfather, interesting. Maybe it was the number of urls I was trying to include (I had about 8 links in there) so it just trashed my wonderful original comment?
Oh well, live and learn.
Just wondering if this stupid gravatar thing will work!
Godfather Added: Does now that I turned it on…nice choice!
That is all the we need. Like it isn’t hard enough to keep drugs out of the hands of kids. Let’s just give it to them!
This worst part about this is that what is being created, or more correctly “has been created” and is now being propagated by a society that cannot seem to take responsibility for their own actions.
This is just another step (down).
Crap! My computer just crashed, who can I blame….and where’s my Prozac?
Godfather Added: ROFL
Mike, add in the “no child left behind” nonsense and you now understand why the world is as screwed up as it is. Everyone today seems to have that “gimme, gimme, gimme” mentality, but none want to pay for it.
