Letter from 2076

futureletterDear Godfather,

The year is 2076 and America is celebrating its 300th birthday.

I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you what eventually will happen given the course you are currently on. Since the scientists in Pakistan solved the “time-travel” issue we are now able to send messages back in time. Maybe there is still time to change things.

Of course the messages are highly monitored by the government and can only be sent via the Internet. From what I understand, most of our messages back to you get misinterpreted as spam. The V.I.A.G.R.A. board (Vigilante Internet Access Group Revolution Authority) is looking into why the messages are not getting through – but I digress.

First off, the battle in Iraq works out fine and saves democracy, as you know it. You have a few more years of conflict but eventually it all comes to a close and works out well for creating a thriving democracy in the middle east.

Unfortunately democracy in America begins its downward slide just before your President Bush leaves office. The first “bailout” set in motion a chain of “government owned” entities. The action put in place under President Bush and continued by President Obama made it difficult for businesses that were not getting government money to compete. I am sure you are already aware of the Insurance and Real Estate industries; eventually the government also took ownership in…

Schools – Children are now on a 2-day-a-week school schedule. There is concern they are not able to get enough time for studies since one of the days is dedicated to learning non-English languages.

Automakers – Eventually this ends up being outsourced to other countries, but only after several failed attempts at running them and costing the taxpayers trillions of dollars. If you can find one, pick up a Segway (they end up selling for $34,000).

Fuel – Fuel consumption has long since been regulated. No longer do we have the issues of price. You will receive a state issued Fuel card with the usage allocated based on need determined by the Fuel Ingenuity Group (F.I.G). Most people get about 4 gallons per week.

Grocery Stores – This was a move instigated by the F.D.A. under the premise they would be able to better manage the increase in tainted foods being distributed in the U.S. Special Note: I would avoid the Soylent Green wafers.

Internet – Since the shutting down of all independent (non-government) television stations many of the Citizen Czars* are looking at better controlling Internet communication. We don’t expect to be “online” much longer.

*I failed to tell you not to worry about getting term limits for Congress and Senate. Unfortunately just before that movement gains momentum the government created Citizen Czars to replace both Congress and Senate. Czars are appointed exclusively by the President and they are “life” positions.

Anyway, I have to sign off now – it looks like another sand storm is coming in. Just thought you would like to know that The Slow Bleed is still up and running (although we have to keep moving the url to avoid detection). I hope to write to you again.

All the best,

Godfather VI
