Just to remind myself that I am getting older, both my drivers license and CCP (concealed weapons permit) both came up for renewal this month.
Despite being in good standing, both required old-school “offline” renewal. I figured I would take care of both of them on the same day (what was I thinking?).
The CCP required a passport photo and $65. Done, in the mail and I proceed off to the drivers license office.
It was there that everything came to a screeching halt.
First off, I need a whole lot of documentation…
1. Valid Identification – AND the actual drivers license is not accepted as a valid form of ID. As if I travel with my Passport on daily basis.
2. Social Security Card – I haven’t seen my card since I was 17. Good thing they will allow me to retrieve my old 1099′s and bring in as proof.
3. Proof of Residence (2) – Current Utility Bill AND either vehicle registration or “Statement from person you live with along with TWO address documents in that person’s name.”
4. Plan on an hour wait to be seen.
5. Pay $35, plus change of address fee if applicable.
Yep, it was waaaay easier to renew my gun permit than renew my drivers license (which is still ongoing by the way).
I think that is why there are more and more old people on the road in Florida – they are only ones with enough time to go through the effort to renew a drivers license.
I despise The DMV. Somehow my license renewal schedule coincides with white trash week at the DMV. And the wait! I swear the DMV workers must earn a percentage of vending machine revenue.
