Ok, there are ten million emails going around regarding Obama’s plane and the relocation of the US Flag* versus John McCain’s plane not even having the US flag. Well, here you go.
Obama’s plane was repainted once he was the last “man” standing in the Democratic race. The North American Airlines flag* was removed from the tail of the plane (which now sports Obama’s logo). The US flag remains next to the aircrafts call letters.

McCain’s airplane (below) was not repainted nor does it have a large US Flag (there is one located just below the tail).

In the end, you get to choose which act of narcissism you like best. Paint your own logo on the plane or make your name really big?!
*Godfather added: To further clarify…Obama’s plane is from North American Airlines. The logo (flag) that was on the tail was North American’s logo (not an actual US flag). Obama relocated (or retained) the US flag as mentioned above (adjacent to the plane’s registration number) and replaced NA’s logo on the tail with his own campaign logo.

When I run for President, and then capture quite easily the nomination for my party, I think I will just take a paper flag, fold it into an airplane and have a really strong bunch of guys toss me into the air. After all it’s the takeoff that is difficult to learn…landing comes naturally…
The great thing is, I’ll manage a low carbon footprint to soothe the environmentalists as food will be the fuel and you’ll have little exhaust issues (unless you count the guy who had beans for dinner), and in the ensuing landing (of the fall and crash variety) will involve no chance for wildfires, and little cleanup.
Wait a minute….who devised this friggen plan?!?!? 2 elections ahead of time, and my assassination is already in the planning?!? My advisor sucks!
I can’t wait for the debates when we can focus on the real issues. I am still not sure which way to vote. Thanks for clearing up the plane stuff.
Great Site! I am waiting for “Stop the Bleeding” t-shirts!
Godfather: Thanks Cat. I was thinking about “Stop the Bleeding” shirts at one point. Maybe I need to re-think them (and I good way for people to win them).
With all the talk about the lapel pin, you would think he would have thought this one through a bit more.
Either you are proud to be an American – and show it – or you are not.
MidUSA and Vet398…
The “flag” that was originally on the plane was moved…It is still there…What is it that you do not understand here?
I will add one other thing about this flag nonsense. The original flag is actually the logo of American Airlines, from whom Obama leased the plane. All Obama did was paint over one LOGO and substitute another. I wonder where McCain got his plane and what logo was originally under the tail section that is now plastered with his name?
Thanks for the comments Robert,
I believe Obama’s plane is from North American Airlines. The logo that was on the tail was North American’s logo. Obama relocated (or retained) the US flag as mentioned above (adjacent tot he plane’s registration number) and replaced NA’s logo on the tail with his own campaign logo.
McCain’s plane is the “Straight Talk Express” and also has a flag on it (below the wing towards the back. The plane is a Boeing 737-400. During a five month period McCain used his wife’s corporate plane (Phoenix-based beer distributor).
I’m so glad I’ve missed this airplane thing until now. It’s just one more example of how ridiculous this campaign has gotten (on both sides).
Since when does NOT displaying a flag mean you are NOT proud to be an American? The vast majority of Americans do not wear flag pins, or have flags on their cars, or fly flags from their homes. It proves nothing.
Pied, I love your take on the situation.
There are millions of people that never put up a flag on Fourth of July or wear a flag lapel pin – yet those same people are pointing fingers at candidates for the “size” of flag they have on a plane.
Great Point!
Vet 398, I am proud as hell of you and all who serve. Your service to Our Country allows ALL OF US FELLOW AMERICANS our freedom and beliefs as we see fit. I am not sorry to say that I do not share your opinion. Who died and made you God when it comes to deciding what being an AMERICAN is?! Enjoy life, live and let live.
I get where you are coming from VET except Obama did not remove a flag, he removed the airlines logo. Also, he still has a flag on his plane.
J Miller, I don’t believe VET was felt he was “made God.” Your comment seemed a bit harsh.
I find it curious how everybody is up in arms about the removal of a dipiction of the US flag from Senator Obama’s plane.
For one, the U.S. Flag Code expressly forbids the use of a U.S. Flag in advertising of any kind (and running around the country selling yourself to the American people is what campaigning is all about). Just because other people do it illegally, doesn’t make it right. Senator Obama, whether he’s aware of it or not, is actually following the law, while Senator McCain is breaking it by adding the embellished flag to his plane.
The only flag that should be on any plane is the small flag denoting the country of origin. Plan and simple.
Oh…and technically, service flag lapel pins are ONLY supposed to be worn by family of active-duty soldiers during a time of war.
