I used to like Victoria’s Secret. It was the perfect place to find a great gift for my wife for Christmas, Anniversary, or just because I did something stupid and needed to make up for it.
I suspect a trip to Victoria’s Secret is much different for men then it is for women. I am not sure what women are looking for but I do know what men are looking for: Less is More.
Years ago, my first trip to buy something for my wife lead to a very displeased shop attendant. In my defense, I don’t think it was my fault.
Not exactly knowing my wife’s size (I have since been coached on that part) I wasn’t sure what to pick out. Most of the items looked pretty hot. The Victoria’s Secret “consultant” was helpful, but I really couldn’t make up my mind.
After narrowing it down to two potential outfits I threw them both on the showroom floor and decided which one looked better on the carpet.
It seemed like a perfectly good elimination plan to me (considering that is where it was going to end up if things went right). Needless to say, the consultant was less then pleased and I, to avoid total embarrassment, purchased them both.
I have since learned my “looks-good-on-the-floor” technique was not the best way to pick out an outfit, but lately, I don’t have a clue what to pick out.
Victoria’s Secret has changed – Frankly, now too much is “secret.”
The current trend towards polar fleece and flannel has led me to believe that women actually shop there and Victoria’s Secret is actually catering towards women’s wants – go figure.
I am pretty sure Wal-Mart, Sears, and Macy’s are not good options (again, I have been properly coached).
I guess I will just have to wait until Victoria’s Secret realizes their errors in merchandizing and goes back to their target (male buyer) market.
Till then, comfortable flannel will just have to be the gift of choice this holiday. At least it is still packaged in a pretty box.
I’ve never really got why a guy gives a woman slutty lingerie thinking it’s a gift for HER. It’s like a woman buying a man flowers. It may be what YOU want, but you’re supposed to buy what THEY’D like. I’ve always felt most loved (and in the mood to be the most loving) when my husband buys things that he knows *I* want.
As far as Victoria’s Secret, I think women spend the money and the American population is aging. I imagine they’re trying to capture the biggest share of the market.
Very funny male take.
Although I understand where Gina is coming from, I am not sure I agree less clothing has to be considered slutty. I suppose it depends on your mood or upbringing.
For me, I am ok with both depending on the situation. If my husband gives me something sexy I think it is for us both.
My take has on Victoria’s Secret has always been, they know winter is colder than summer. It seems men often don’t.
Ok Helen, you got me there. I can’t argue with the “colder in winter” analogy. It wouldn’t be the first time us men are oblivious.
But that’s the beauty in the “colder in winter” analogy!!! Since its too cold to wear a skimpy piece or two of something slightly thicker than dental floss, it only serves to hasten the “thorw it on the floor” move, and hop into bed to ….um, snuggle in for warmth?
Is there a PG rating on this post?
Haha! That is hilarious! I’m sure you could find what you’re looking for on the internet but I’m not sure they have taken pictures of the items on the floor to better help you make your decision
