People Spent Money! Now What?

Ok, maybe all those checks from the government did help.

Just to clarify, I am talking about the IRS tax rebates, not any other programs. The stimulus payments were introduced to try and avoid recession.

Sales rose by a better-than-expected 1% in May. Core retail sales (excluding cars) rose 1.2%

So, what did everyone buy? Here is the hot list…

  • Nintendo Wii
  • iPods
  • Sony PS3
  • Flat Screen Televisions
  • Gas
So everything is good again right? Not exactly. The same day the Labor Department data was released. The number of new applications for unemployment rose 25,000 – the highest level since March and higher than expected.

I’m still waiting on my check….I think I’m going down to the dime store and spending it all on 3cent tootsie rolls bought in increments small enough to avoid paying sales tax!

  2. Jay Burns says:

For the record I did not do my part. I paid off debt. Sorry Mr. Bush.
