Consider it an end to an era. 8-tracks, cassette tapes, and now the VHS tape are all going the way of the dinosaur. The last of the VHS suppliers, Distribution Video Audio Inc, is shipping the last of its VHS inventory and closing its doors.
The last major film released on VHS was “A History of Violence” in 2006 (get ready for that to be a Trivia question in the future). Ironically enough, this year’s comedy with Jack Black, “Be Kind Rewind,” was all about a VHS rental store – the funny part is that it was only available on DVD and Blu-ray.
I still have some VHS tapes lying about. The problem is that I don’t actually have a VHS player. Holding the tape up to the light and flying through the tape does not appear to be an option.
First three tapes on my VHS shelf? Funny Bones, Shawshank Redemption, and George Lucas in Love.
So, what is on your VHS shelf?
It’s a Wonderful Life and Howard the Duck.
An American President, Man in the Iron Mask, Pretty Woman, Overboard, and numerous movies I taped from the TV (i.e. the Nephew, What a girl wants, Maid in Manhattan, Greenfingers, Anna and the King).
Just to name a few, of course……………..LOL
too many VHS on the shelves….and I still own a VHS playing device….think I’ll keep it and make it a collectible eBay item later on down the road for the hard core VHS fans…..
