Much of the money these people have to run, are given to them, sponsered money. Sure they may have some to start with, but much of it has to do with whom they can get to donate money to their cause.

Our only hope is that whomever is elected as president, or in any area of politics for that matter, is that they remember what it was like to be an average everyday American citizen.

Check out the book, "The Great Derangement" that has recently come out. Part of it is an eye opening look at the inner working of the corrosive Washington system and the myth that there actually are "two parties".

It has pretty much been proven that the current administration is largely dealing with the good (or bad) that was created by the previous administration. It is also not the President that has the greatest impact but the Senate and Congress.

That said, I believe most people enter in to politics with good intentions. Special interest groups and concessions make it difficult. In the end, I think the politician has to make a choice on what to put through. Kind of like not wanting to make the same mistakes your parents did when raising a child - but you will just go and make your own.

I'm not sure you can criticize everone in Washington for the likes of a few bad eggs. It seems to me that when people get disgusted with life, they always blame the politicians for it. It would be easy to lay the whole ball of wax on Mr. Bush's lap, but I am not sure any one person is ever at fault. It is a mighty big place we live in.

I'm guessing Mike will have have the South's vote tied up with the promise of reintroducing transfats in our oil. Those french fries just aren't the same.

I have to agree with Fred. The politicians are not a representation of the average (or even the above average) American.

Which is exactly why you need to start pushing my name around for the election in 8 years (when I'm first eligible to be President)...I'll appoint informed regular people instead of career politicians to my cabinet. (and don't forget, i'll support the reintroduction of transfatty acids into your frying oil for much more delicious cheesesticks!)
