McCain’s Blind Date…Sarah Palin

McCain’s choice of Palin for the VP is both interesting and sad.

What is interesting is McCain, who likes to surprise people, chose a female running mate. McCain has a long history of surrounding himself with long-time advisors, people with experience, and people he has know for some time.

He met Palin, for the first time, six months ago – not to mention he has only spoken with her once since then – to offer he the big VP spot.

The other odd part of all this is the McCain has been touting his campaigns edge was clearly experience and how everyone on his team would share that level of experience. I guess that went out the window during a focus group when they said they needed someone to try and steal some Hillary votes.

Don’t get me wrong Palin may be a great pick, but with only a couple years under her belt it is too early to tell. Given all the choices McCain had some people were certainly surprised (When you are 72 years old and have battled cancer four times, you better be right.)

This “Hail Mary” by McCain will be interesting to see if it helps or hurts him in the election. The initial reaction among voters who wanted a woman in the White House is that they are not pleased. They felt Hillary was a sold candidate and that a “token” women is insulting. I think it is too early to say Palin is a “token” politician (she actually needs to wear out a pair of choose first in a political office). Palin may rise to be a great leader.

Not matter what happens, we have clearly crossed the line of picking the most qualified people in the room to who will look good standing next to me.

I like this choice. This woman is no shrinking-vilot.

What she lacks in expriance she makes up in energy and

she is someone who can connecct with the 90% of the

    population.

  2. Douglas P. says:

I like this choice. She has a reputation as a straight shooter with intergity.

  3. joyce says:

How do you compare Sarah Palin with Hillary Clinton?

  4. Godfather says:

I don’t actually compare the two at all. The McCain camp was trying to get another women (in attempt to get voters that were going to (only) vote for a women (ie: Hillary votes still on the table)…to me, that is where the comparisons end.

I think it was a bad move for McCain. I am a successful business women with a family and it is very hard to find the time to do both right. Palin has shown that she can’t even manage her own family, what right does she have to be first in line to the presidency should something happen to McCain? Is she even qualified to be in the position where she could potentially become the President of the United States. If McCain wanted a women on the ticket, he should have chosen one with experience. Condelezza would have been a better choice, he would have gotten the “women” and the “black” in one.

Godfather Replied: Thanks for the comments!

I know you did not mention it here, but is it really an issue her teenage daughter is pregnant? It seems in the scheme of the world that should not take her out of the race.

  7. The Woman in Black Stripes says:

Anyone care to bet on the next story to emerge involving Sarah Palin?

  8. Godfather says:

LOL “Black Stripes” – I just added this to the blog!

  9. Cat9438 says:

I wonder if McCain knew that Palin’s daughter was pregnant.

  10. Personally, I couldn’t care less about Sarah Palin’s daughter being pregnant. That is a family matter and in my mind has NO bearing on anything. HOWEVER, considering Sarah Palin was a staunch supporter of “abstinence only” education, and was trying to push it through the Alaska school system………..you have to wonder who did raise her daughter that her daughter doesn’t hold her beliefs. I also seriously doubt her daughter made the decision to keep that child on her own; and I’d bet the farm that the father of that baby had little say in the marriage he will be entering into.

Hillary was Pro-Choice. Any female who was Pro-Life was NOT voting for Hillary. Their Pro-Life stand is more important to them than the fact that Hillary was a female.

I find it insulting that McCain actually thinks he can win over all those Pro-Choice Females just because he chose an uber-Pro-Lifer female for VP running mate. This woman believes that a woman should be forced to carry, nurture and give birth to the unwanted child….including cases of rape and incest.

Funny, I hear no mention of her and her husband adopting any of these unwanted/unplanned children that are put up for adoption.

And for the record, I wasn’t voting for Hillary to start with.

I can also guarantee, if she’s in politics she is NOT the one raising her own children. Especially a special needs child. I am the mother of a special needs child myself, and having to work even a 9-5 full time job while raising him was hard……..you know she has a nanny or someone doing the bulk of that work. Yes, I know, we don’t put this burden on men either……….but I don’t go around claiming those men raised their children – we know mom did – but they are claiming SHE raised her children. A life in politics allows that much time? Nice.

  11. Godfather says:

Thanks SWF, I always enjoy your comments.

Funny that Palin is Pro-Life but made the comment that “Bristol made the decision to keep the baby.”

If indeed it was a “decision” by her daughter it may be likely that no one can make that decision for themselves in the future.

McCain has made it very clear that he is opposed to Roe v. Wade and will attempt to appoint judges to overturn the ruling (looks like Palin may do the same?!)

  12. Oh you can count on it Godfather!!! McCain would love nothing more than to put women back into the dark ages where they were just chattel to men. And Palin is no better, regardless of her NRA membership, etc.

Anyone who is against anyone else exercising free choice with their own body to the point of forcing their personal beliefs on everyone via legislation, is someone who truly does NOT believe in the Constitution fully, and cannot be trusted to honor and uphold it. Like the bible they just pick out the parts they like and twist the rest to fit their personal beliefs.

It’s really getting scary out there!!!

  13. Anomynous says:

Palin is THE best VP! Great choice McCain and I’m your supporter! I have read the signs saying STRAIGHT TALK on them and since then, well…do I need to explain more? It’s what it’s all about-believe me- Palin will be ready to lead, not ready to promise!

  14. anomynous says:

Just as a side note; who cares about any personal information on the drama of McCains daughters life? Are we talking about rumors, chit-chat and jokes here, or a we facing facts on the actual point of this: Palin for VP!!!

Palin is not just any Republican out there. To the Democrats adding to the blog: Try to think about the question what a person really is on the inside, what her goals are and what she believes in, not about her daughter being preganent. Because who is running for VP: her or her daughter?

  15. MitchellMadson says:

Why do Republicans always sign blogs “Anonymous”? – LOL

  16. Anomynous is back! says:

Because we are more careful of blurting information out that is not needed! Again: It’s all about Straight To The Point!

  17. MitchellMadson says:

and being afraid to put your money where your mouth is (or stand behind your convictions) Don’t worry, I used to hide as well…:)

  18. anomynous again! says:

Don’t worry either! One day all of you Demos will find out who they where talking to! And hide? Always a good way to involve yourself!?

  19. Stephanie1122 says:

    Looks like this to me:

    Republicans:

    McCain:

    Obama:

    Next USA drama!

  20. MitchellMadson says:

Anonymous – now I know you are not that bright…you made the assumptions I was a Democrat. Foolish Mortal.

  21. Anomynous says:

    Hey Mitchell!

    Teamwork?

    Bright and not bright
