The McCain/Palin team may have made a slight error in judgment in their Personal (not Political) attacks on Obama.
Throw out a few questions about Obama’s association with former radical William Ayers (forget the fact Obama was 8 at the time) and maybe you can start a frenzy at the McCain/Palin campaign rallies. Well, they did.
At a recent Palin rally supporters shouted “terrorist” and “off with his head” when Palin spoke of Obama. Palin did nothing to stop the comments or threats.
McCain (finally) takes the high road…
Whether it was due to media pressure, party pressure, or just McCain taking the high road personally, he finally stepped up publicly on some of the comments.
On Friday he was in Lakeville, Minn. A supporter told McCain he feared what would happen if Obama was elected. McCain responded “he is a decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States.” – This drew boos from the audience.
Later a woman told McCain she didn’t trust Obama because “he’s an Arab.” McCain replied; “No, ma’am. He’s a decent, family man, citizen, that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues and that’s what this campaign is all about.”
And the low road…
Of course the attack ads that fueled most of this movement are still running. I suspect this is done with reluctance on McCain’s part (this is politics after all).
I have to respect McCain for stepping up the way he did. Although it may not change the backroom or media advertising, it was the right thing to do.
McCain is a badass. I have always respected the guy and I would have no doubt he would be a good leader. I just don’t believe it is his time to be president.
My respect for him has only deepened after publicly correcting his ignorant republican followers. If only I could get him to talk to my mother- who, sadly, still believes Obama is a secret terrorist.
I am going to have to guess Obama just may be the cleanest (as in no skeletons in the closet) candidate ever. Given his race, name, acting Senator, Democratic Nominee and the fact he ran against (and beat Hillary); if anything existed it would have long since come out.
That doesn’t necessarily mean he will make the best President, that remains to be seen if elected. I just think he has been “checked out” to no end.
I can’t have much respect for McCain’s suddenly stepping up to calm down his ignorant fear-filled followers since HE is the one who started all this shit to begin with. He has not missed a single opportunity to link Obama with anyone who has the tiniest shady in their background. That is when he’s not trying to convince you that Obama has NO experience to be President……..well hell, neither does McCain for that matter. Bush had experience running companies – and he ran them right into the ground and STILL the idiots elected him. So much for experience counting.
McCain riled them up at his town hall meetings. Instead of discussing why they should vote for him and not Obama; instead of discussing HIS own plans if elected president (in detail that is not the few soundbytes he threw out there) he spent that time knocking and putting Obama down. And now wants to pretend he’s the one calming the fire? He started that fire and his running mate is even worse……..what’s he doing to get her to shut her accusatory mouth?
And all this has just had Obama in defense mode which means he too is not selling himself as the best candidate.
Personally, I think this is one of the dirtiest and nastiest campaigns ever. And with McCains supposed 25+ years in the political arena, the man should be ashamed of himself for the huge role he has played in all this shit-slinging.
Okay, time to spring forth with my genius here:
I’m going to go out on a limb and say SWF is just a littlemore than ticked off now? Would I be wrong in assuming that?
LMAO..SWF- why not tell us how you REALLY feel. Holding it all in like you are is just not healthy!
Have to agree with SWF, there was a glimmer of decency in Minn. but it was McCain’s team who started the frenzy. Was it an epiphany? – he’s on stage watching blood drip from mouth corners and suddenly thinks to himself, Oh Crap! Or, was it just more of a carefully planned campaign strategy preying on a fervent emotional crescendo?
Mike,
Moi? Ticked off? Never!!! LOL
I’m actually brain dead with this campaign, I’m glad I vote early by mail and have already sent in my vote.
But yes, the campaign has ticked me off for the most part…..(but you figured that you already, you smarty pants you…..LOL)!!!
