Judge Goes Too Far…(Mother’s Day Post)

I better post this one on Mother’s Day.

A Fairfield man will spend 180 days in jail because his daughter failed to get her General Equivalency Diploma (GED).

Although Brittany Gegner is now legally an adult, a judge had ordered the father to stay on top of his daughter’s education months prior (as a minor).

The judge, David Niehaus, indicated the father might be released early in the event of the daughter passing the test  - Meanwhile, the father is in jail and in danger of losing his job.

It seems to me, with today’s trends, had the father been dealing drugs in the presence of his daughter, stealing cars, or running an illegal gambling facility he might have received a shorter sentence – or maybe no sentence at all. Sure we are all responsible for helping our kids get an education, but this goes too far.

This is just another example of how no one seems to be responsible for his or her own actions. The daughter chose her path. Matter of fact, the judge’s ruling just sent a message to the daughter that it “wasn’t her fault.”

Leave the parents alone – they already will have enough to deal with.

This issue seems to be getting a lot of attention on the news…could be a reversal in a real hurry…let’s at least hope.

  5. I just heard about this case. I haven’t read anything on it, but isn’t it legal for kids to drop out of school at 16 or 17? So what is a judge doing ordering a father, that she doesn’t live with, to monitor her education? This world is getting tooooooo nuts for me. Someone needs to stop it so I can get off!
