Is there really a Mouse in the Bailout?

As people gather around the coffee shops and talk about the stimulus package, various bailouts, and pork additives, they invariably pick out their favorite stories of gross spending on really stupid things. Case in point, the hot rumor right now is the “Pelosi Mouse.”

Here are the facts…

A part of me wishes it were true. I mean, who can’t have fun writing about a $30 million dollar mouse? In actuality, it didn’t end up in the stimulus package – but it was close.

The project was actually submitted by a state agency (not Nancy Pelosi) for a major coastal restoration project in California.

Of course being California it meant putting in a $30 million bill to protect the salt marsh harvest mouse.

Not far off the mark though is the “Give a Mouse a Cookie” written by Laura Joffe Numeroff. Good lesson for the kids of today and you can order it here…If You Give a Mouse a Cookie

Good point. Mice, Owls, Squirrels. Pretty sure that none of them are going to help American’s get a job. So the mouse thing didn’t get through, but some real crap did!
