I try to avoid the news but yesterday I was in a room that happened to have the news on. The story was basically praising a city’s decision to drop the children down to a four-day school week to save money.

The parents, who I thought would be pissed off at their child not getting a good education, were only concerned with the city providing some sort of “free” day-care service on the “day off.”

They weren’t concerned that their child would learn less. Just that someone else would watch the kid.

On the other side, I assume it was people without kids but you can never be sure, were people that were thrilled at the money the city was saving. “It is about time the city made some smart cuts,” someone said, “I am sick of stupid spending.”

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist (not that we will have any anymore) but if you keep cutting the amount you educate future generations we won’t have to worry about any jobs in the future – there won’t be anybody around smart enough to invent anything or provide a service.

This really is just another example of no one in any power….strike that….no one at all, that is actually concerned about the future. Everyone seems only concerned with themselves and what they get now. Screw it, my kids can learn from television or PS3 as long as I get a couple extra tax dollars to get my nails done or have a beer with some friends.

Great. Little Jimmy will be an idiot but we saved a few bucks on gas for the buses and not paying a teacher that day.

How can anyone really think this is a good idea? You can still read this right?

What? Is that all you got?

Forget what caused the battle in the first place (an argument over whether one was sitting too close to the other). One thing led to another and well, one guy stabs the other guy with a pen and is hauled off by police.

What a missed opportunity!

I mean this could have been a great reenactment of the bar scene in Star Wars!

No lightsaber or photon death ray? What about some vaporizer you have been working on in your mother’s basement for the last 10 years as kids threw snowballs at you – always knowing one day you would have your revenge?

You could have stabbed him with some “hi-tech” pen only found in Bruce Wayne’s cave. Or an invisible pen that you developed as a recluse on some island prison somewhere.

Sheesh, center stage at the big comic convention with Stan Lee probably ready to write a comic about you…and this is what you come with?

Damn, it was probably just a free hotel pen as well.

Two to Four Players compete at exploring for oil and building platforms. Players must avoid the “hazard cards” which read such set-backs as, “Blow-out! Rig Damaged,” and “Oil Clean Up Cost. Pay $1 Million.”

$1 Million? BP wishes it was only that much.

The rest of the info on the game is even more sketchy than the actual disaster. Supposedly endorsed by BP and other oil companies the game was produced around 1970 with little sales (wow, there is a surprise).

I suspect this game will now emerge from dark closets across Europe and start selling on eBay along with Connect Four Hurricanes and Chutes and Failed Car Companies.

Sure this could turn into some long drawn out Godfather rant about the evils of cigarettes, parental control, and the pressures of society – blah, blah, blah.

The mother, Diana, complains that her two-year-old son cries and wants a cigarette. So, of course, she does what any other good mother would do, she gives it to him (about 40 a day).

The mother is not sure how to get him to quit.

Really?

Now, I am no expert, but I am pretty sure that little Aldi is not walking down to the local smoke shop, slapping down some cash, and buying a pack of smokes himself. So here is my little parental tip…

Are you ready?

Better write this one down Diana.

Maybe even record it as well.

First off, I don’t see how anyone can be FOR illegal immigration; I don’t see how you can protect your country if illegal immigration is out of control.

The affects of illegal immigration eventually catch up with you (This is still my favorite example). However…

I really don’t think the Arizona Law is the way to go.

It is one thing to shut down or “protect” the boarders; it is another thing to require police to verify citizenship (and immigration paperwork) each time the encounter an individual.

No matter how you cut it, you can’t help but bite into the rights of [actual] U.S. Citizens. Sure, some people say that is just the “price of cracking down.”

But I also highly suspect the people that don’t have a problem with the law either…

a) don’t live in AZ or

b) are pretty much safe in not being mistaken for any racial profiling (can you say fairly light skinned?).

Think about it for a minute. You will be required to show identification (proof of citizenship). Will this stop at illegal immigration?

Sure, we need to address illegal immigration, but not at such a great expense to our innate freedoms.

Lately, in addition to questions regarding my overall sanity, there has been some question as to why The Slow Bleed does not have many “warm fuzzy posts.” After carefully reminding myself “hey, this is MY blog” I moved on…

First off, let’s look at the name: The Slow Bleed (yea, that sounds like it will be a site full of Unicorns and Fluffy Bunnies.)

Seriously, I didn’t name it The Hello Kitty Blog or The Make Your Life Feel Better Blog (heck, those two weren’t even in the running).

Next, I am going with the “It’s my Party and I will Cry if I Want to” defense or, in this case, continue to write whatever, usually sarcastic thoughts, I want.

For the sake of clarity, here is a list of things you will probably never read about on this blog…

1. Kittens playing with yarn.

6.  Any Hollywood Gossip that has to do with adopting kids.

With that said, I should showcase a few positive things from time to time so that my readers don’t think I am a stay-out-of-the-sun-and-eat-bunnies type of person (aahhh hell, I just broke #2 and #4).

Seeing that this is Friday, this still makes me smile…
