Really TaylorMade? White is BETTER?

Not to be “politically correct” but…really TaylorMade? Your latest campaign, “White is better” just may leave some people out.

Someone in marketing just wasn’t thinking this one through. I am sure Al Sharpton is already on the phone with someone…

UPDATE: I have been informed that TaylorMade is testing some new versions of the R11 Driver advertisement in response to some “slight push back” over this advertisement. In reality, I suspect there are numerous versions out there but here is the latest… [Read more...]

Facebook Status Updates from 2010

Great, a random sampling of my Facebook status updates just tells me one thing. I had way too much time on my hands. (PS, click image for “normal size” and there is a way bigger list of updates here).

Does this Wikileaks Make Me Look Fat?

Can we handle the truth? I mean really handle the truth? Julian Assange and Wikileaks think we can.

Let’s put aside any potential life-threatening danger for just a moment. Do you really think we should know everything our government (or anybody else’s for that matter) does?

It all sounds like a good idea at first. Full disclosure! Woohoo! Transparency? Oh yea! – It all works great when everything is warm, fuzzy, and above board. No one likes to think about the icky (but necessary) stuff that comes from the other side of the tracks.

Let me put it another way…

Could you handle full-disclosure relationships?

I mean one where there are no secrets and you can pretty much read each other’s minds.

Do you want to know everything your spouse is thinking? There are certainly “off days” and plenty of softball questions that you need to avoid. “Does this dress look good on me?” “Do you think I am in good shape?”

What about your teenager? Do you really want to know everything they are doing? Would you have wanted your parents to know everything? Do you want your kid to know everything you have ever done?

I suspect not. Some things, harmless as they may be, are better kept silent.  But who decides where that line is drawn?

Frankly, I think Jack Nicholson summed it up pretty well in A Few Good Men. “You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth!”

Sure, I think we should be as open as possible. But there are limits.

As for Wikileaks, it is fine line when it comes to reporting. I say “reporting” because in some ways I really think that is what we are talking about. We don’t seem to have an issue with all the data about other countries…we are just concerned when our secrets come out.

Reporting is one of the biggest things that keep our governments honest. Maybe in the future the government will just learn to hide things better – like a good teenager.

As for me, I don’t need to know everything except, does this font make my website look fat?

Best Holiday Quote

“In the old days, it was not called the Holiday Season; the Christians called it ‘Christmas’ and went to church; the Jews called it ‘Hanukkah’ and went to synagogue; the atheists went to parties and drank. People passing each other on the street would say ‘Merry Christmas!’ or ‘Happy Hanukkah!’ or (to the atheists) ‘Look out for the wall!’ – Dave Barry

More Stuff on the Way Out

My lack of posts lately are certainly not due to lack of interest. Frankly, another project has since blown up into a full-time endeavor.

I alluded to it a couple posts ago when I got rid of my sports car. This time, it was my Harley Davidson edition F150.

The project (or should I say “experiment”) will be in full swing in 2011.

Behind the scenes is the creation of a new website (actually three sites, but that is another story for later).

Needless to say, I am probably going through some sort of “what-the-hell-does-it-all-mean” phase or, at the very least, trying to shake things up a bit. I suppose most people at this stage run out and buy some stuff – I am doing the opposite.

My eBay account has been in full swing (the only difference that is that I am selling stuff, not buying stuff). Anything that I can’t (or won’t) sell is pretty much being donated. Cars, Toys, Property, you name it.

This isn’t really the site to ramble on about this.

I have not forgot that The Slow Bleed was largely a place for me to vent about whatever I felt was dragging down the cumulative gene pool of this country (or society). There is certainly no shortage of those stories still out there, I just find that, after awhile, the writing about them sort of gets to you.

Anyway…stay tuned if you desire or dare and thanks for the support.

Can I Minimize Everything?

Begin Minimization. Sold Prized Sports Car

I am getting ready for a new “experiment.”

People that know me understand when I say “experiment” that it is usually something out of the ordinary. Not wildly mind you. I mean I am not packing up all my things and running off to Antarctica to study birds wearing nothing but a tinfoil hat (I ruled that one out).

No, I am looking at personal downsizing and I have been positioning myself (at least mentally) for this over the last twelve months – selling or donating small items. Yesterday I took a bigger step and started to get rid of bigger items – I got rid of my Porsche.

I am not reducing debt. In other words, I didn’t owe anything on the car. I am reducing stuff. And lots of it.

I made a list of things that I want to keep. Most of them are technology related as they allow me to stay in tune with the world as well as keep a whole lot of personal stuff in a small space (like scanning all photos for instance).

For example, I think I will keep my iPhone, Macbook, and iPad. (Can you tell I am a Mac person now?).

Tracy is on board as well (when I first wrote this I accidentally said “on bored” – probably just a slip up). I am sure I couldn’t do it alone (if so, I would be doing a lot of walking).

Not exactly sure where all this will lead. I may use this site to document the whole process or, as history would suggest, I may pick up a new web site and leave theslowbleed for my random thoughts.

This would have been an easy process at 18 or 24 years-old. Should be interesting to see what it looks like at 45.

At 18 you really don’t have anything to speak of. Either “stuff” or “intellectual history.” Not really much of a gamble to go out into the world.

I am reminded of Gandhi’s famous quote, “There is more to life than increasing its speed.”- we shall see Mr. Gandhi, we shall see.

So, anything you think I must keep or need to pull this off? Leave any comments below…
