What? They Didn’t DRIVE?
November 19, 2008 by Godfather
All three automotive CEO’s flew to DC yesterday to complain about how they are about to go under and basically the Congress needs to step in and help. By “help” they mean give the three automakers some big bailout money.
Here is my favorite part…
(WARNING: Those with queasy stomachs should not read any further).
They didn’t drive to DC. And flying commercial coach wasn’t on the agenda either. Matter of fact, a commercial airline wasn’t even on the radar so-to-speak.
All three CEO’s flew corporate jets. Rick Wagner* (GM), Alan Mulally (Ford), and Robert Nardelli (Chrysler).
*Wagner, who flew on the $36 million luxury aircraft, asked Congress for $12 billion for GM alone.
Come on guys. Not even “Jetpool” to get your stories straight on the way?! Did you at least remember to take off your Rolex watches before you went in front of congress?
Godfather Note: Sorry readers…I just can’t make this stuff up! And I thought I would have nothing to write about after the election. Sheesh.
UPDATE December 4, 2008 - Just as an update, the CEO’s must be learning. They drove to the next round of talks in DC. Then again after being denied the $25 billion they asked for last time this time they arrived with a plan - ask for $35 billion instead.

At least the committee members had the decency to get all snarky and embarrassed them, on TV AND on the record for their arrogance and greed. It was wonderful to see someone finally ask a question WE would have asked.
You’ll never have to worry about having nothing to post about. Unfortunately the world has gone mad and we are spoon fed all kinds of nonsense to expose, ridicule, etc on a daily basis.
Mine today was an 84-year old tradition in New Mexico that involves homecooked meals contributed by all participants being under fire from the city as “unsafe”!!!!
You are right………………..we couldn’t make this stuff up if we tried.
They could sell the jets and stay afloat a few more months at least and with gas down, by then cars would probably be selling again.

Logan, Logan, Logan….
Now WHY would THEY give up their personal amenities? That couldn’t possibly make good sense. Remember, with all that government cheese ready for the taking, and our “free money, instant gratification” attitude here in America, such a thought might run counter to the way we do things around here!!
Remember, WE are never at fault for anything, so EVERYONE ELSE should pay up to make sure things don’t fall apart for us!
LMAO!!!! Honestly though Logan…it would be a nice thought and gesture on their part to do such a thing!
Logan and a follow up to Mike’s response to you… You guys sound like you must be Sarah Palin supporters. That’s what she did with the Alaska “Governor’s Plane” She put it on E-Bay.
And next in line are the Mass Transit Systems across the country! I can tell you that NYC transit alone rakes in hundreds of millions per day and they still cry broke. But the story I saw on CNN about it………………….they were helping banks evade taxes!!! And are now all heading to DC for a hand-out. Of course they claim it isn’t a “bail-out or loan” just federal funding they feel they deserve!!
Tried to find it just now and can’t, but I’m sure it’ll be all over the news soon enough.
Jim…I don’t really know if I am/was a Palin supporter or not. i guess I just don’t see the point of spending huge amounts of money, when claiming that without an astronomically larger amount of it will cause them to lose everything.
They may as well have been blowing their noses with $100 bills while asking for bailout money. CEO’s make me sick. And don’t get me started on AIG’s luxury retreats.
Apparently Ford’s CEO, shamed in the public spotlight decided he’ll drive from now on……I wonder if he’ll drive himself, or grab a big stretch SUV limo and have someone else drive him?
