Hadron on Collision Course…Really!
September 9, 2008 by Godfather

I didn’t want to leave anyone wondering what had happen since my post June 30th on the Hadron Collider.
This Wednesday is the big day to fire it up and since then it got a good PR manager. The “spin” has pretty much changed it from the “Doomsday” machine to the “Alice in Wonderland Investigation” – complete with comic book.
The 4 billion dollar “tube” will begin firing beams of protons around the 17-mile tunnel tomorrow. First fired counterclockwise then fired clockwise. After about a month of this “one-way” street stuff the real fun starts – they begin to shoot the protons at each other.
The protons colliding are expected to teach scientists about “dark matter,” antimatter, and even about space and time.
It seems most of the possible concerns such as creating a Black Hole have gone by the wayside.
Remember, the odds of the Hadron Collider creating a black hole? 50 million to 1.
By the way…Someone actually made a video about the Collider and, for what it is worth, it is spot on scientifically. The downside? It is Rap music (and subtitled) but you can find it here if you really want…
