The Systematic Draining of America's Economy, Culture, and Pride.

The U.S. may have missed the chance for its first female President this year, but not the first female four-star general.
President Bush nominated Lt. Gen. Ann Dunwoody to head the Army Materiel Command. If confirmed by the Senate, she will become the first female four-star general.
Women have not reached the coveted “four-star” category as they are excluded from serving in combat roles – typically the path to four-star status.
Dunwoody is one of only two three-star generals serving in the U.S. Military.
On the whole human beings want to be good, but not too good, and not quite all the time. – George Orwell

Ok, maybe all those checks from the government did help.
Just to clarify, I am talking about the IRS tax rebates, not any other programs. The stimulus payments were introduced to try and avoid recession.
Sales rose by a better-than-expected 1% in May. Core retail sales (excluding cars) rose 1.2%
So, what did everyone buy? Here is the hot list…
As traditional every Friday at The Slow Bleed I try and take something submitted by a reader and post it for Friday. The suggestions are usually inspirational, such as the Sara Tucholsky story or something a bit different such as my stunt flying in a WWII T-3 Texan. This weeks clip is actually from a movie.
The movie was Any Given Sunday. The speech was given by Al Pacino to his team that was losing at halftime.
I had seen the movie before and thought it was a very good motivational speech. What struck me as interesting was how this may be, given the current state of affairs, an appropriate motivational speech for the United States.
Special Note: The clip does contain some language that might be offensive to some people -- but I am sure the urgency will not. Click “Comments” below to share your thoughts.

At a time when a gallon of gas is pushing $5.00 (US) it is good to know that some corporations are still in denial.
Maybe “denial” is not the right word, maybe it is just “bad timing” but Burger King recently unveiled the world’s most expensive burger.
Simply named “The Burger,” it is currently available for purchase at the Burger King in London for the low price of $185.00 (US).
So, does this amazing hamburger feed a household? Not exactly.
The Burger is roughly the size of the whopper and is made from massaged Japanese Wagyu beef. Burger King has sold about 50 of them so far and will be donating the proceeds to charity.
If The Burger makes it to this side of the pond the United States could be looking at their first Boston Burger Party.
Apparently George just had to fill up his own car at the ranch or something.
He has said with the rising price in gas, we should end the 27-year band on coastal drilling for oil and reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
In the news conference at the White House, Bush said there was “no excuse for delay” in lifting the ban.
So where are the Presidential candidates on this issue?
Well, McCain has made a complete u-turn on the issue and is favor of it stating, “We must take control over our own energy future…” Historically, he as very much opposed drilling in coastal waters.
Obama, at least at the time of this writing, was against the offshore drilling. Basically stating McCain is simply going through “political posturing.”
Analysts believe drilling offshore will do little to reduce our dependence on imported oil.
So, what do you think? Should we lift the ban and go back to drilling offshore? Click “Comments” below.
Fine, I suppose this is where you look for some witty insights to my mind. A "bio" of sorts. Here is the deal... I ride motorcycles, smoke cigars, golf, kayak, fly, race my car through the mountains, write (a lot), and travel extensively. I am almost old enough not to care what other people think about me...almost. ~Godfadr
